Training Fees. The fee for each in-person (traditional, not virtual) training session offered by West Coast Area is $10, unless otherwise stated.
- The fee will not be charged to any WCA Guider who attends the training session. However, if a Guider does not attend, or provides less than 24 hours’ notice of her cancellation, her District will be billed for the training fee.
- If you are not from West Coast Area, the training fee must be paid in advance (not at the door) before your registration can be confirmed. The training fee for out-of-Area participants will only be refunded if the training is cancelled by West Coast Area.
Contact the Area Training Adviser for details of payment and registration confirmation.
Confirmation of Registration. The "thank you for registering" message that pops on your screen after submitting your registration form is confirmation that your registration has been received and recorded. If we have questions about your registration or something is not clear, we will contact you. Otherwise, you can assume you are registered.
- For in-person sessions - Approximately one week before the course, you will receive a reminder email confirming date, times, location and what you need to bring. If you think you're registered but haven't heard from us 5 days before the session takes place - please get in touch to find out what is the problem.
- For virtual sessions - Approximately 24-48 hours before the course, you will receive a reminder email confirming date and time and providing the videoconference link to log in. If you think you're registered but haven't heard from us 24 hours the session start time - please get in touch to find out what is the problem.
Deadline for Registration. Usually 7 days before the date of an in-person session and 3 days before a virtual session, unless otherwise advertised.
Cancel or Change a Registration. Contact the Area Training Adviser at [email protected] at least 24 hours prior to the start of your registered session.
Please give us AS MUCH NOTICE AS POSSIBLE. While we understand that sometimes "life happens", our Trainers, presenters and facilitators strive to make each session the best they can, and this involves advance preparation.
You may think "I'm just one person, they won't miss me" - but that's just not true.

Ranger or Bridging Member? You may attend trainings for adult members, but please identify yourself as such at the time of registration so that appropriate Safe Guide procedures will be in place, especially for in-person sessions.
Contact the Area Training Adviser if you have questions or want to know more about what's available for you.

Not from West Coast Area? We welcome the attendance of Guiders from any other Area! Please read about our Training Fees policy, as we do require payment in advance.
What should I bring to a training session? In general, you should plan to bring the following items, and your confirmation email will tell you about anything else required for your specific session.
- Paper and pen for taking notes - or a laptop/tablet, but not all our training locations will have wifi or accessible outlets to plug in
- Water bottle and/or hot beverage of choice
- GGC name tag if you have one
- Extra sweater in case the training location is chilly
When are you going to offer First Aid training? The primary job of the Area Training Committee is to promote and administer the national Training and Enrichment for Adult Members (TEAM) program, and to support the GGC Trainers who provide training to our Guiders. Although first aid qualifications are required by Safe Guide for some Guiding activities, the fact that such first aid courses must be taught by an outside organization such as St. John's Ambulance or the Red Cross takes it outside the responsibility of the Area Training Committee.
We are fortunate to have a wide choice of first aid training available from accredited organizations in our Area. A Guider can take first aid training at a time and place of her own choosing. Some Districts will reimburse for all or part of the cost of first aid training, and sometimes a District will coordinate a group session for their own Guiders, so as to obtain a better rate. Contact your District Commissioner about this.
Once you have completed your first aid training, send a copy of your first aid certificate to [email protected] to have it added to your iMIS profile.

What about Food Safe training? Food Safe training must be offered by instructors who are certified through the local Health Authority and therefore, like first aid training, it is outside the scope of the Area Training Committee.

Accommodation of differing needs. If you have any needs that may require accommodation, please contact the Area Training Adviser so we can understand those needs and discuss a suitable accommodation. All such discussions are confidential.
If child-care is a barrier to your attendance at an in-person training session, we encourage you to discuss this with your District Commissioner first, as there may be a solution "close to home". Failing that, please contact the Area Training Adviser well in advance of the training session.
